Freight services
Nairobi to Juba Road Freight
The workhorse service on this corridor. Road freight carries weight and volume that air cannot, and it is how most commercial cargo reaches Juba from Nairobi.

The route
Trucks leave Nairobi heading northwest through Nakuru and Eldoret, then cross into Uganda at Malaba. The Ugandan road runs Tororo to Kampala to Gulu, reaching the South Sudan border at Elegu on the Ugandan side and Nimule on the South Sudanese side. From Nimule it is a final run to Juba.
So three customs jurisdictions touch one shipment: Kenya at export, Uganda in transit, and South Sudan at import. Uganda operates a one stop border post at Elegu, where officials from both countries work under one roof so a truck is processed once rather than twice.
How the price is built
Groupage road freight is billed on chargeable weight, meaning the greater of actual and volumetric weight, or on cubic metres, whichever the table specifies. Light, bulky cargo such as foam, plastics, packaging or empty containers of any kind prices on volume, because it fills the truck long before it reaches the weight limit.
A minimum shipment charge applies. Below a certain size the cost of handling, paperwork and border processing does not fall with the weight, so very small consignments price at the minimum rather than per kilogram.
Sensitive cargo is rated separately. That category covers goods that attract higher duty, carry more value per kilogram, or need extra care and documentation. Electronics, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, phones and branded goods usually fall here. If you're not sure which band your cargo sits in, describe it and we'll tell you before you book.
What the rate covers
Each row in the table states its own inclusions and exclusions. As a general rule, a road freight rate covers the movement and the handling we perform. It doesn't cover:
- Import duty, VAT or other taxes assessed in South Sudan (see import duties and taxes)
- Sector permits, standards certification or a Certificate of Conformity (see Certificate of Conformity)
- Demurrage, storage or waiting time caused by incomplete documents
- Special handling, cranes, or escorted movements

Tell us what you are shipping
Send us the cargo description, weight or volume, and the pickup and delivery addresses. We reply with a written rate, the transit time and the documents you will need.
Transit times, honestly
Published transit times describe a normal run with complete paperwork. They are not guarantees. The variables that actually move the date are border queues, incomplete or inconsistent documents, standards inspection at destination, and seasonal road conditions on the Gulu to Nimule stretch. The biggest thing you can do to protect a schedule is get the documents right before the truck loads.
